SCAD Advanced Survey of Computer Art Applications Project Portfolio
Below is a link to my portfolio website that I created at the end of the 5 week SCAD Rising Star program. During this program I took CMPA 110 (The Advanced Survey of Computer Art Applications) and The Survey of Visual Effects. In CMPA 110 we spent a week learning the basic mechanics of each of the following applications: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Aftereffects, and Maya by Autodesk. I was overwhelmingly satisfied with my expierence with the program and feel that I have grown significantly in my artistic skill but also found greater direction when it comes to planning out my life after high school.
Summer Photos
My primary focus for this photo series was to capture the unseen, I wanted to show weird angles, lighting, and objects. An important part of this project was not filtering or editing your photos, you needed to capture and submit raw photos, this was definitely a challenge coming from a past of highly editing the photos I post on social media or otherwise. To ensure that photos still turned out well lit and aesthetically pleasing it became paramount that I traveled to diverse places at the right times, always trying to catch a sunset or a golden hour. I'm glad this project allowed me to explore the use of actual cameras and discover new techniques. Some of my favorite photos are at the bottom of this web page and they were captured at Devil's Lake National Park, they emphasize macro photography but also the power of natural lighting and hues.
Finger Painting
Summer Witch
Acrylic on Bristol 48 cm by 61 cm July 2018 Exhibition Text
This summer was very busy and filled with lots of travel and trying new things. One things I became invested in was horror movies, upon watching the Blair Witch project I was inspired to create an abstract creature in an organic way. To achieve this feeling of exploration and abstraction I decided to do my first ever finger painting and completed the entire piece using only my hands. |
Inspiration:
My primary source of inspiration for this project was derived from the cult classic horror movie: The Blair Witch Project. While the dramatic pacing of the movie was interesting I found my self inspired by the bizarre manipulations of nature throughout the movie. Some of these structures even reminded of work by Andy Goldsworthy, the primary structure I was inspired by is made of sticks and branches which is a very familiar medium to Goldsworthy. Now I have explored with mixed media projects and creating with found objects, however I wanted to explore a new medium for this project.

Process:
Unfortunately due to the fact that I poorly planned the execution of this project I do not have process photos because I was painting with my hands the entire time and did not think to pause and record some mid process photos. However my process was fairly simple. I started by tracing my figure onto Bristol paper, and from there I filled my pallet with the colors I planned on using for the piece. My color pallet was based off of copper and gold colors and then complimentary colors. I began by only dipping the tip of my index finger in paint and very carefully going over my tracing lines. Eventually I began covering my hand in multiple colors and trying to find patterns by rapidly filling in the paper and trying to bring more contrast into the piece.
